I took my Nikkon camera out of storage a few weeks ago with the intention of taking my editorial photography to the next level and beginning to offer copywriting and photography services to local realtors and small business owners. Since then, I have gathered hundreds of images for those purposes… plus a small portfolio of ICM photos meant to capture the energy of Las Vegas.
I actually experimented with ICM (intentional camera movement) when I first got my camera. Back then I photographed blurry textures to create artistic backgrounds for my Shutterstock portfolio. I did not love the results and did not think I would try the technique again.
But then I saw some ICM photos in a YouTube video that I really liked. They were more like impressionist paintings than anything else. I changed my mind immediately. I love impressionism.
My first few attempts to capture the energy of Las Vegas with the help of ICM were unsuccessful. I needed darkening lens caps and a lot of practice moving the camera and seeing the results.
With the number of editorial photos awaiting upload to my Shutterstock portfolio beginning to approach overwhelming proportions, I gave myself one night to really focus on figuring out ICM.

For several hours that night, I wandered the Strip, pausing in places surrounded by traffic, experimenting with different movements and capturing multiple shots of each location. Sometimes I even held the camera over my head and clicked, just to see what would happen. I definitely got some looks. It was the most fun I have had in a long time! Hahaha.
The fact that most people are either oblivious to the presence of my camera or don’t care if they walk right through the shot is actually helpful for taking great ICM photos. So, I was laughing inside as I thanked those who apologized and/or tried to duck out of the frame. And now, to those who were oblivious or thought their eye rolls, angry looks, or choice to stand in my way would wreck things, I must say… thank you for being a shadow in the light! These compositions would not be complete without you.

As mentioned at the beginning, I am now offering copywriting and photography services to Las Vegas artists, realtors, and small businesses. Contact me below for more information about how I can help you.
