There is a reason that my latest streetwear design – the Intuition Rules t-shirt – is only available in purple, blue, and green. They are royal colors! Kings and Queens have worn these rich colors for centuries. So, I thought it fitting to introduce this funny shirt design for intuitive people jewel tones (royal purple, royal blue, and emerald green).
Have you ever wondered why those particular hues are called royal colors?

Purple was once so rare and expensive to produce that only royalty was allowed to possess items in the color. An extremely rare sea snail was required to make the regal hue.

Rumor has it that the particular shade of blue which we now call royal – the one that is brighter than indigo and richer than azure -first appeared the late 1700s during a competition in England to design a dress for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III.

The fact that the color emerald was created to match the green gem likely will not surprise anyone, but… did you know that the original recipe for the dye contained arsenic? Yes, it was poisonous. Emerald green (the color) was once literally “to die for”.
